Bilateral meeting between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Austria in Voderady
31st bilateral meeting between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Austria on issues of common interest related to nuclear safety and radiation protection took place in Voderady, Slovakia, on 17 – 18 June 2024. It is a format of regular bilateral meetings organised once a year which is based on the intergovernmental agreement between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Austria in the field concerned.
The partners informed each other about current developments in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection, activities of regulatory authorities and other relevant institutions, commissioning and operation of nuclear installations, amendments in legislation, as well as developments in the field of radiation monitoring in both countries. The topics discussed also included emergency preparedness, decommissioning of nuclear installations and an issue of the new nuclear power plant in the Slovak Republic.
The Slovak delegation, led by the Chairperson of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic (ÚJD SR) Marta Žiaková, delegation was composed of representatives of ÚJD SR, the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, the National Nuclear Fund, the company Slovenské elektrárne, a.s., the company Jadrová a vyraďovacia spoločnosť, a.s., and the company Jadrová energetická spoločnosť Slovenska, a. s.
The bilateral meeting was traditionally held in a friendly atmosphere and all questions, mainly from the Austrian side regarding details of the Slovak nuclear program, were answered by the meeting participants.
