Bilateral meeting with Polish nuclear regulator
On 23-24 April 2025, a bilateral meeting of representatives of the Polish and Slovak nuclear regulators (ÚJD SR) was held in the village of Otrębusy near Warsaw. The meeting was hosted by the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency (Państwowa Agencja Atomistyki, PAA). The discussion concerned the exchange of experiences of regulatory authorities in the field of nuclear safety supervision, as well as current developments in national legislative frameworks.
Representatives of ÚJD SR reported on the experiences of the construction, commissioning and operation of Slovak NPP units from the perspective of the regulatory authority. Contributions by PAA representatives focused on the current status of the preparatory process for issuing a permit and supervision of the first nuclear power plant in Poland, as well as on legislative challenges with the development of technologies, including small modular reactors (SMRs). During this year’s consultations, special attention was paid to the current challenges related to building and strengthening of human resources in the field of nuclear regulation.
Annual bilateral consultations are held within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Slovak Republic on early notification of nuclear accidents, on exchange of information and cooperation in the field of nuclear safety and radiological protection, signed in Bratislava in 1996. Previous Polish-Slovak consultations were held in April 2024 in Tomášov near Bratislava. In accordance with the Agreement, PAA and ÚJD SR intend to continue organizing annual bilateral meetings for the purpose of further exchange of information and sharing of experience.
