After entering of the Slovak Republic to European Union UJD SR fulfils continuously, in frame of its scope of action, commitments and tasks resulting from the membership of the Slovak Republic in the European Union. From the point of view of responsibility a Treaty on Establishment of European Community for Nuclear Energy (thereinafter Treaty Euratom), by which the community policy in the area of nuclear energy use is specified, is the basic document governing UJD SR.
On the European level nuclear issues are discussed in working groups and committees of the Council (e.g. Working group of the Council for nuclear questions) and Commission (e.g. high level group for safety of nuclear installations and spent fuel and radioactive waste management). To these working groups the experts of the Office are nominated and they then take part in preparation, review and approval of EU documents having a legal or non-.legal nature.
At the national level UJD SR co-operates with other central authorities of the state administrative as well as with permanent representation of the Slovak Republic in EU while co-ordinating and assuring activities and preparing stand points and information depending on necessity and in compliance with approved mechanism of co-operation resulting from the Resolution of the Slovak Government No. 884 dated October 17, 2007.
