Eduard METKE, born on 12 January 1957 in Svätý Jur. In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. Here in 1989 he also obtained his PhD. In the period 1981 – 1992 he worked at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of STU as a researcher and lecturer. In the period 1992 and1993 he worked at the Ministry of Environment in Bratislava in the field of nuclear and radiation protection, while he was responsible for preparing the establishment of the regulatory authority for nuclear safety in the Slovak Republic. In 1993, after the establishment of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of SR, he began working at the Authority as the Director of Emergency Planning, Information Technology and Personnel Training, where he was coordinating external and internal emergency planning, operation of the emergency operations centre, preparation of legal regulations in the field of nuclear safety, cooperation in this field with the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna (IAEA) and the OECD/NEA. He was also responsible for the IT and data transfer from the nuclear installations and for the IAEA and EC projects in the given field (RODOS, EURANOS, ...), where he worked until now. From 2005 he was entrusted also with the position of Director General of Regulatory Activities and International Relations Section at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of SR. During his tenure at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of SR he attended many seminars, internships, scientific visits and other training activities organized by the IAEA and the EC in the field of emergency planning and emergency preparedness. In the period 2006 – 2011 he was a member and later on he headed the group of experts on missions in other countries, organized by the IAEA, EC or OECD/NEA.

On 1 November 2014 Eduard METKE, PhD. was appointed by the Government of SR as the Vice-chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of SR.
