The National Council of the Slovak Republic gave its consent with the accession of SR to the Vienna Convention on civil liability for nuclear damage by its Resolution No. 71 of 25 January 1995 and the President of the SR approved it on 23 February 1995.
As for the Slovak Republic, the Convention entered into force on 7 June 1995. In the Collection of Laws of the SR the Vienna Convention was published under No. 70/1996 Coll. l. International legal obligations of incorporating multilateral international convention were transposed into the national law of SR first by the Act No. 130/1998 Coll. l., which was replaced from 1 December 2004 by a new Act No. 541/2004 Coll. l. on peaceful use of nuclear energy (the Atomic Act) and on amendments and supplements to certain laws.
Civil liability for nuclear damage is regulated in more details in the Act No.54/2015 Coll.l. on civil liability for nuclear damage and its financial coverage and on amendments to certain laws, and its implementing Decree No.170/2015 Coll.l. establishing the list of radioactive materials, their quantities, physical and chemical parameters justifying the low risk of nuclear damage.
