Organizations or individuals are allowed to use nuclear materials, build, modify or operate nuclear installations (NI), decommission NI or to handle radioactive waste only based on authorization or agreement issued by Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak republic.
Issue of authorizations is the first control tool of both legal and natural persons, which use nuclear materials, handle radioactive waste or which build, commission, operate or decommission NI. To get the authorization the applicant has to prove its ability to observe and fulfil all requirements set down by the laws and decrees in force in the Slovak Republic. Further, the applicant has to prove that the NI will or is operated safely.
